Survivor girls have so much courage.
I just think we don't believe we do sometimes- but when I take a moment to review things I have done I realize that I really do. So what is courage anyway? Courage is having flashbacks of being molested and still getting up to go to work the next day. It is doing self care and holding it together or later properly falling apart. But it is getting up, doing, being and facing the pain head on even if it means crawling back in bed with tea. We live with it and we deal with it. We are some of the most fearless human beings you will ever meet- and we have met the darkness so many times that we learned to be the candle. Courage is going on first dates with anxiety and memories of all the heartache that family caused and going anyway. Courage is having no reason to trust anyone because we have been betrayed so many times but we reach out and be vulnerable anyway. Courage is living, pursuing education and careers despite the trauma symptoms we live with daily and have had to learn to manage. And it's having the bad days- if you are a survivor you know there are good days and then there are bad days. And courage is having the bad days and doing things anyway or at least not giving up because we know that we can do it and tomorrow promises at least a new day- so we have the courage to try and believe even when scared and tired.

Nora JulietI am a former country girl and abuse survivor. I enjoy blogging because I find it personally therapeutic. It also allows me to share my experiences with others, and bring to light issues of abuse. I write under a pseudonym for my personal safety as well as to negate any potential legal trouble over sharing my story. Archives
